Knee Surgery Done

Well my knee surgery seemed to go well yesterday! We had to wait a bit for the doctor to get there. Knee surgery was scheduled at 11am. I think I actually got in on time since the person before my scheduled visit canceled his surgery. The anesthesiologist commented that the doctor showed up an hour late so everything was shifted back. Seems like that is pretty typical for doctors.

Once they rolled me into the surgery room from pre-op, I don't recall anything. I mean nothing at all! They gave me a "I don't care what happens" shot as the nurse phrased it right before we moved. And I was so gone that I recall waking up in the recovery room and that's it.

I kinda thought I was still waiting for the surgery to be done when I woke up in the recovery room. And then I felt the pain in my leg. Ohhhh, okay. By 2pm, I was home and resting. The day after, I had no big issues with the anesthesia. I feel okay, just a little tired and uncomfortable with the pain in my knee.

I'll find out more when I have my doctor visit next Friday. But it seems like they just removed some severely inflammed and thickened tissue (the joint lining) around the meniscus. The doctor told my hubby that I was very lucky that I will get to keep the meniscus area. He said the thickened tissue is called knee joint synovitis. And likely that it was a build up from a previous injury and this fall re-inflammed it. He thinks that I should make a 100% recovery.

I wonder now if that inflammed tissue was from when I had that cheerleading fall off a pyramid some 20 years ago. I did have a lot of issues then with my knee randomly swelling after the fall. But they never could find anything. So maybe this fall re-aggravated it again.
