Tales of the One-Legged Wolf

A friend of mine gave me a new nickname yesterday, the one-legged wolf. We work at a creative agency where the wolf is a frequent mascot of ours. It's part of one of sister company's name so we go by "the pack" for our daily email annoucements and use the wolf imagery a lot for t-shirts, marketing, and such, even though our company name doesn't have wolf in it. I still haven't figured that one out :P

As John was signing my knee brace, he added this new name to the ongoing graffiti that's starting to cover it. "Get well, our one legged wolf!" I had mentioned earlier in the day how I felt like a wolf caught in a trap, ready to gnaw my leg off to be free. I appreciate the fact that John always adds a bit of lightheartedness to a situation. He's a really cool friend and boss.

As my second week of lack of mobility continues, I'm getting rather irritated with having to do little and have others wait on me. I've sat my crutches down a few times to just hop around on my left leg which aggrevates the injury. When the pain becomes sharp again after my hopping and bungling along on it, I concede to pick them back up again or better yet, find a spot to elevate my leg and rest.

I was proud of the fact that I drove to work yesterday for the first time since my accident. I put on a smaller knee brace so I could fit in the car and drove the 10 minutes one way to work. The doctor said I could make a few short trips but nothing longer than that. I enjoyed getting out since I've been working from home several days. See? That's what is irritating! That I should be happy I can drive me car a short trip. It ceases to amaze me how life is so startlingly in my face some days and reminds me, "Are you getting this? Don't take things like walking for granted, kiddo!"

My morning didn't start off so well with news from the orthopedic surgeon that my appointment today was pushed out to Monday. I'll have to wait through another weekend to see the doctor. I've gone ahead and made a second appointment later in the month with another orthopedic doctor for a second opinion. I'm just hoping I can find a good surgeon and get this fixed soon without having to take too much time off from work.

See the attached photo. I went to the Dallas Cowboys game with my family and had my legged propped up between my nephews. They were so sweet to let me do that and I didn't even mind when I got bumped a time or two. Just comes with the territory.
