USB Happiness

Today I'm awaiting the arrival of my latest USB gadget, a Canon Compact Photo Printer (the Selphy™ DS810). I'll be able to plug the printer right into my Canon PowerShot camera and start printing 4 x 6 glossys. Even with loving digital photography the way I do, I'm still drawn to having a photo in a frame or on the wall.

USB (Universal Serial Bus) has come such a long ways from a few years ago, okay 10 years ago, when it was created in 1995. I can recall my old Toshiba laptop that had a USB 1.0 port. It was flaky and wouldn't read consistently. Now USB 2.0 is completely stable and plug and play is a way of life for me.

Last month, I got a card reader that has a USB port. I can take my memory card from my camera, slide in the card on one side and plug the USB port on the other side directly into my PC at work or laptop at home. And gleefully I learned, I can put more on my card than just pictures so now I have a gig of space to use for files from work or photos I snapped at lunch. I can't imagine my life without USB peripherals. Next on my radar, a ballpoint pen with a USB connection or better yet, a keychain flash drive. After its creation ten years later, I don't have to. :)
History Lesson: Check out this article about the USB success story, from 1995 til now and see what's next for USB. http://www.everythingusb.com/timeline.html

So let's get back to the game...Add a comment with your list of USB peripherals. If you hit 5 without having to stop and check your closet, you win! Okay, I don't know what you win, but hey, just play.
Here's my current List of USB Peripherals:
  • Canon Compact Photo Printer (the Selphy™ DS810)
  • Canon PowerShot A620 (digital cord connection)
  • SanDisk USB Flash Drive (512 mg)
  • Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB adapter
  • IOGear Pocket Card Reader
