Painting smiles into friends' hearts

Well it looks like I have several friends who want me to paint something for them now. I've showed off the square painting I did and it's becoming very popular with everyone who sees it. I'm so excited!

Below is the 24 x 30 oil painting called Pink Rain Forest I did for Alyssa. She asked for a color palette of Fall colors. I played around with the idea of doing blocks of color with the brush strokes going in different directions. This painting sits on a Gallery style canvas. Since it was oils, it took a few weeks to dry, not too long really. I had lunch with her today and she said it's hanging in the sitting area next to her kitchen where everyone can see it. That brings a smile to my face cause I know she'll really enjoy having it in her home.

You'll notice that the painting does not have a signature on it. I signed it on the back so she could hang it in any direction she wanted. I thought this way it would be more versatile.

As I move to the next four paintings I'm doing, I'm working out my designs right now for each person and talking with them about their favorite colors and what they like. It's been fun to see if I can match the painting to the person's personality. Some want straight lines within the boxes and others want splashes of color all over the place. Some want the painting to match their decor; some don't. I enjoy trying to use a creative process to match their goals. And it's sweet that they have just asked for me to take this step. Their paying for my materials and I'm creating something they can enjoy in their homes.

What's been most rewarding for me, especially since I promised myself I'd paint more after my mom's death last year, is that I'm getting a great response and lots of support. Mom painted several canvases of abstract art that now hang in my art room and it's a way I can enjoy remembering her while creating new designs, looking forward while looking back. Plus I'm actually putting myself out there, not just talking about it. Isn't that half the fight?
