2006 "Red Velvet Square"

Red Velvet Square, 24 x 30 inches.

OilsAfter seeing the painting I did for Alyssa, Pink Rain Forest, Cindy asked I do one for her too. She wanted darks reds, browns and some lavendars. I created a blood red square at the bottom left to anchor the painting. I added more red paint on it to give it a design of small triangles all over it. Only one other red square is on the canvas. Two small red squares are at the bottom right and top right but I added burnt umber on top of the Alizarin crimson color to give it a very dark burgundy or velvet color. You can see just a little of the red coming through on the edges.
